Gilded
Santa Fe Clay exhibition, August 2003. An
exhibition of utilitarian pottery embracing domesticity,
ritual, and beauty. This work is a blend
of formal decision, pure joy for the clay material, response to process,
and use of metaphor. The large golden Japanese persimmons are luscious
and flat. The pottery forms are full but still. The gridded areas are
ordered and distant. With these pots I am trying to capture a moment
in time, a sense of morning, of light in the day, of mystery, of evening. |
